Why Am I Running?
We need to take a long-term look for Nahant. We have a somewhat unique situation where the vast majority of our revenue comes from residential real estate tax. So our revenue is fairly predictable. Based on historical record, we should be able to make reasonable forecasts of expenses. Therefore with proper long-term planning, we should be able to forecast and plan for the future to avoid facing tough and unexpected choices on an annual basis.
I want to enhance and foster collaboration between the Board of Selectmen and other town committees, departments, and various citizen groups. In other words, do my best to make sure we are all working together for Nahant.
What Are My Guiding Principles?
We must all make our choices for the greater good for Nahant, even when that means a little personal sacrifice. We will not agree on everything, but I think we will agree on most. In the (hopefully few) cases where we don’t agree, let’s accept other opinions and ideas without condemnation. Let’s all put equal energy into the issues we do agree on and move our community forward. I will work towards these goals with integrity, diligence, transparency, impartiality, acceptance, and tolerance.
My Thoughts On The State Of The Town
I believe Nahant is in overall good shape. Of course there are issues to resolve and improvements to be made. But we are starting from a great position. I think Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Johnson School do an excellent job. We are fortunate to have public employees that really care about the town and doing a good job. This is a blessing that not all communities can claim. In the face of current budget challenges, my goal will be to preserve these services that benefit us all and enhance our community spirit.
